got over my 91 f150 being stolen in may i just came accross a 96 f250 that appears to be in vgood condition with only one problem i found - so far..anyway its has 5.8 motor manual hubs and manual shifter for the 4 w drive..moveing the shifter from 2h to 4h the shifter seemes to be very hard to move but it will go in and out of 4h - shifter feels like its sticking or binding..i understand u have to press down on shifter to go into nutral and 4low..while pushing down on shifter it wont move down all the time and if it does its even harder to move shifter back to 4low and out again..after several trys it did go into low and dash lits work but it took forever to get it out and back to 2h..so my question is - does this sound like a transfer case problem or a linkage problem on the shifter itself...took a quick look underneath and the linkage has this round cylinder thing whitch connects the shifter to the transfer case..does this thing need some lube to help free it up - how do u lube it - is it known to bind up due to rust dirt etc...while im at it this dealer is asking 7500 for this truck its a xl model...you guys think thats to muck for a 96 f250 with 127000 miles on it..sorry for the long story...any ideas...thanks
We couldn't really tell you if it's worth $7500, location changes pricing and we can't look the vehicle over ourselves. Your best bet is NADA or Kelly BlueBook for a rough idea.
Your linkage needs to be lubricated. Remove the shifter and lube it up. If you don't have a Haynes manual yet, I highly suggest getting one. It would tell you how to remove that shifter, it's pretty simple though. Pop the links off and unbolt it. Also, the shift **** is pulled off, not unscrewed.
Please remember we have many forums for various topics. We have a Transfer Case forum. If you havn't already read this thread, please do so...
