i just got my 1345 bg transfer case put on my truck after 2 years with out it. i never used this transfer case before so i dont know what it was like then. i have a 86 f250 400 c6 4x4. the problem is when i go to put it in 4 wheel drive 4l 4h its hard to shift into. i got it in 4l low and played a little and went to put it back into 2 wheel drive and i couldnt get the damn shifter to move.
i went under the truck tried to move it by hand, no luck. took the linkage off and tried to move it again and wouldnt budge. taped on it with a hammer still no luck. so i used a ratchet strap to put it back into 2h.
does anyone know what the problem maybe or how to fix this. and if the transfer case needs rebuilding how hard of a job is this. i am good at figgering things out. i took a diesel truck and put a gas motor and more stuff.
thank you
not sure on park, cause with the parking prawl in the trans, you will load the gears just like it is in gear.
in neutral, the only resistance there will be is that caused by the brake pedal. that is why when shifting to 4 wheel or 4 low you let off the brake and it goes in.
i never thought about it when i had the 5 speed in the truck. when i put the C6 and new t-case in, i freaked out for 2 weeks till i read the book, and then tried it and gave a little homer DOH!! when it slipped rite into gear and then back out.
ok i guess i need to give this a shot. i hope this fix the problem. i put too much money into the truck and im not read to put more in it now, lol. on that shifter how do you take the wobble out of it. i got the bolt tight and it still moves side to side a good bite. do you have any ideas on tighting that up. thank you
on your 1345, do you need side to side movement to shift??
the 1356 case i have in my truck requires you to move the shifter sideways to get it into neutral or 4 low.
you may also just have something stupid wrong with it like binding in the shifter. i have seen that many times. after a good cleaning and oiling the once frozen shifter works as smooth as a hot knife through butter again.

Turn off the vehicle, let it roll in N, while shifting out of 4LO or 4HI. It is the only way I can get mine out and the previous owner taped a big letter to the visor with the ENGINE OFF warning. I do believe it is a BW1345 too.
I never had to do this with any standard transmission vehicle, but, hey, it is pretty tough to get an standard in a V-8 van. :-)
ok i tried the n and then shift into 4 wheel. it went in and out 4h but couldnt get it to go in n or 4l. i know i got to replace the little rubber do hopper gor my linkage now. its all messed up from pulling the linkage of. does any one else have any ideas of what else. i also tried with my hand to shift it but would not budge.
are you sure it is a 1345?? it may shift like my 1356. to go into neutral or 4 low, you pull the shifter towards the driver side door while pulling back towards the seat.
actually, sorry, i posted that wrong. the shift pattern is not determined by the case, but by the shifter.
it is possible you have a 1356 shifter on a 1345 case.
from what i can gather, the difference between the two shifters is the 1345 pulls straight back, and the 1356 pulls back, over, then back again.
