1981 300 I6 MCU Code 44
I've had my truck going on 15 years and I have the same trouble code 44 since I got it. It runs great, gets 20 miles to the gallon, and passes smog, but I cannot get rid of this code to save my butt.
I do a no start test and get code 11, do a run test and the same code 44 pops up.
Code 44 is the thermactor system, I've changed the Tab and Tad Valves, replaced the spark retard solonoid, chqanged the canistar purge solonoid, changed the four electric vaccume switches, and even replaced the MCU with no luck getting rid of the code.
I did all the tests that my ford book tells me to do, and it passes every one. I've gotten three MCUs from the bone yard and they all read the same code.
Any ideas on how to get rid of this code?
Thanks,
allso check to see if the diverter is working. do you hear a back fire upon deceleration?
No Backfire on deceleration, The diverter is working corectly, air to the cats when supposed to and air to the exaust ports when supposed to. And the bypass valve is working too. dumps air after 30 sec of idleing. just as the book says it should.
What is the vaccume retard delay valve? It doesn't seem to have one or any mention of it in the vaccume diagrams, or diagnostic book.
From the vaccume diagram, manifold vaccume goes to the air cleaner, goes through a ported vaccume switch, comes out and goes through a plastic vaccume resevoir, goes and splits off to the TAB and TAD solonoids then goes to the combination valve. Then downstream from the combination valve there are two check valves, and both of them are in order too.
Everything is working as it should, including the amount of vaccume that it's receiving to switch the valve. By the Diagnostic book.
It's baffleing....
