i have two sets of connecting rods. the casting number on the one set is D6VE-AA. and the other set's casting numbers are D00E-A. I bileve there both from a 460 but i'm not positive. i was woundering if anybody could tell me what they came out of, thanks.
the 429 and 460 used the same rods. one set is a 76 stlye set and the other is a 70 rod the strongest of the 429 460 rods besides the truck rod but that well have a number like d7te. if you do use a set of those rods use the dooe rods or you can sell them to me.
the D6 rods have a football shaped bolt head. and the DO rods have a rectangle shaped head bolt with C-85 stamped in the center. i'm not sure which set is the older ones though. which ones would you recomend that i use ?
The D6 rod has alittle more meat around the bolt head is really the only difference. Most stock rods break in the beam but the D6's are stronger at the big end.
Maybe this is a silly question, but to some extent, isn't all of this a moot point unless you are a serious racer? After all, pretty much everything in a 385 is incredibly stout, regardless of version.
I'm a longtime Chevy guy who is just learning about Fords, and I have to say I am very impressed with the beefiness of 385s (my only Fords are my F250 and my wife's Explorer [which also has a pretty stout engine]).
The stock rods are really strong and will work upto 7,000 unless you hang a heavy piston on them. The only one I ever broke had a TRW dome on it and I broke the driveline while turning 7,200.
I know a guy that is turning his motor 9,000+ everytime out and is running a offset ground CAST crankshaft. In a factory 4 bolt SCJ block.
So,yes they are well designed engines.
