My check enginge light has been on for a while now. I went to DEQ in order to register my truck and I failed. I got a code of PO171, system too lean (bank 1).
Does any one know what part I will need to fix this problem?

Bank 1 is the passenger side of the engine. The PO171 code means that too much air is being burned in the combustion chamger(s) on that side, and hence the oxygen sensor on that side is sensing a "lean" condition. That's why Ken00 is suggesting that you look for vacuum leaks, such as failing vacuum hoses & connections, because that's where excess air can be drawn into the engine. Another example is a bad upper intake manifold gasket that can also allow air into a particular cylinder or two. So it's things like that you should be thinking about.
Rockledge, is there any reference place to look up the likely causes of the various codes, like you just did? You went from the code to the likely cause -- Some are less obvious than others...
