I could not figure it out last nite. There doesn't seem to be enough flange on the filter in a sloped design. The tighter I made the clamp the more the hose slid back off. From the pictures on the site it appears I have the same intake hose and configuration as everyone else. Any tips on this install appreciated. I need to get that filter on this morning.
I have an 02 also and had no problems getting the hose over. Might want to try lubing up the filter to slide the hose on as far as possible. Remember to take the clamp off when putting it on. When I did mine I trimmed off the tabs on the intake tube and used a bigger clamp also. Good luck
if you havent already take the whole hose that goes right onto the turbo and try to install it if you havent already. possibly you could use some pvc and step down in size to connect the 2 together, not sure if that was any help.
I have heard rumors of each filter when purchaced is a little different than the last one. You may have one that is too sloped to get the rubber tube to stay on securely.
What I did was to remove the tube from the truck and completly degrease the tube so it was nice and dry. It's harder to get it onto the filter but it is the only way you can get it so it will stay on once installed and the clamp is secured. Put your arm down inside the tube and work it onto the filter flange from both inside and out. Then you can tighten the clamp, but not so tight that it collapses the plastic flange. Remember it's completly dry now so it will grip real good. You don't need a whole lot of clamping force to get the job done. Install the whole thing back on the truck that way.
Heat it up too, blow dryer or space heater, no open flame. The rubber will stretch better. I used channel locks to grab it and pull it down tight.
Like Kwik says, degrease it good!!!!
Thanks for all the incredible information I get here at this site. There's nothing like it. I believe I now have the 6637 secure after degreasing and removing the tab deal on the hose end. It makes me a bit nervous though like I'm in it deep if it shakes loose when I'm banging around towing my fifth wheel out there next month. I would imagine it might obvious if a disconnect or leak happens. I'm going to carry the old box with me. Thanks for the idea and advice.
Just an FYI,
I've been too close to airborne, enough that a quarter cord of wood in the bed was totally airborne. Without the wood I think I was about an inch from launching with lots of BIG bumps and the filter stayed put. You shouldn't have any worries, especially with a fiver on the back. I don't think you'll be going as rough as I did.
