Rear Differential fluid

I thought I read this on here before, but I couldn't quickly find it when I did a search. How often does our rear differential fluid need to be changed? I have an 04 model. I thought I read somewhere 100,000 miles.....but I thought I remembered it more like every 30,000 on my old 2000 F250.

Off hand its some wacky high level.
I'm the type that at every 20-30K i change it all but i do tow alot.
I have a hard believing that hot oil can stay consistant over that many miles and heat cycles.
By the way, is everybody's paint cooked off like on my diff. cover?

You might want to register at https://myford.fordvehicles.com. Within that site there's a PDF download for the complete maintenance schedule for any given Ford. It's some 47 pages with check off lists for each mileage interval.

Does it matter how much Fluid you axle can hold? Mine holds 8qts vs the stock 3 or 4 with the Mag hitec..The diff stays at about 130degrees constantly. So does running temp and oil quanity judge how often it needs changed?

The Man: I'm curious as to how you are monitoring your diff. temp?
You using a pyro gun when you pull over or something?
I idn't know that the MagHyTec pan held that much more oil. Thats a lot.

What kind of temperature fluctuations are you seeing under different conditions on the rear diff?

Ive had it up to 170 with a 24ft enclosed hooked up on a 1.5hr trip in the hills..

Seems to stay appx 120-140 in town, Takes forever to heat up to that..

It dosnt seem to move all that much, The new Pan keep it very cool..
