Installed:
MSD-6200 6A
8227 MSD Blaster Coil
I was going to have the Taylor SpiroPro plug wires installed, but they weren't in stock so my mechanic installed another high quality set. I need to find out who he used.
AutoLite Plugs 1 level colder and with an increased gap by .015.
I have found the truck to idle very, very smooth after having this installed. I have only noticed one thing that I am not sure about. It seems to take longer than I would think for the engine to actually start. I thought it would fire up faster than it did before, but it seems to be the same. Takes about 2 to 3 seconds. I guess I thought it would help it fire up almost as soon as the key was turned.
Overall everything is running very smooth. At the same time I had the K&N filter assembly installed as well.
I am now about to have my Clifford Performance headers installed, but I am thinking about getting Cliffords cam shaft and throttle body and doing it all at once. It may be over kill, but they are claiming some pretty high performance increases.
Greg, I too just installed a Jacobs ign. on my 1996 F250 with a 460. I encounterd same hesitation upon starting! But it runs smoother and i got 2 mpg improvement! Setup also called for 1 drop in plug range and to open gap to .50 to start and go up to .60 if it would improve power and mpg. They did not recomend .60 for pulling applications. I set at .52. This 2 mpg increase was more than i expected. I really did not believe for sure when i ordered the coil and plug wires. NEXT for my filter and muffler.
Hi Greg and Tim,
I've been runnin' a Jacob's for some time now and had the start-up situation you guys do. What seemed to help mine was advancing the timing, not much, 2-3 degrees, and leaning out the ilde just a tad(Carburated) now she starts right off unless I forget to add a little choke when it's been sittin' for more than a day or two. I have an MSD installed on my 91 F250 / 460. I went with the 7AL2 Ignition, and the 8207 Coil. That made a noticeable difference, but I never experienced any slow starting problems mentioned in the other posts. This was installed along with Doug Thorley headers in preperation for my supercharger install(as recomended by the Supercharger Manufacturer). Afterwards I installed the 8580 Billet Distributer and an in-cab timing adjuster(8680).This was mainly done to make timing an easier adjustment between race days and daily driving,(when I Mud Bogg I have been running aprox 2 quarts of Nitro Methane to 7 gallons of gas)and timing has to be adjusted about 5 / 6 deg advanced. With the latest install I have been getting some check engine light intermittenly coming on and shutting off,(only after an excelerated drive up the hill 900 ft to 3500 ft,and then immediate stop and go traffic),I believe it is the EGR valve, but it goes away so I havent spent the time to follow it up closer. This a bit of an expensive ignition system(aprox $1200).But there was a noticeable improvement just with the coil,ignition($680) and headers.

I forgot to mention when I first installed the 7AL2 ignition, coil, and headers , I had just installed a Hypertech Chip(part # 610231),and K&N filter a few weeks before, this may have been the difference in not having any starting hesitation?? The chip added a little power but decreased gas mileage dramatically, about 2 MPG,from aprox. 10 to 8 MPG(but I have to admit to having a heavy foot). Just as another note I did install a Jacobs ignition(Ultra Team Mileage Master)in my Jeep wrangler(4 cyl/2.5)along with a K&N Filter and a 3" exhaust off of my truck. It really makes the little 4 banger run strong. I think the Jacobs ignition system is cheaper than the MSD also.

DG, I used the Jacobs Omni Magnum Team, the computer and coil is in one package. If i rember it cost 319.00. It included the 8.5mm spark plug wires, they are very good wires. The omni mileage pak cost about 60 dollars more for the extra bells and whistles. Idid not need them. Good luck!!
