I was considering installing a MSD 6a ignition along with the MSD blaster coil in my 89 BII, 2.9
Typically what kind of economy and performance increase could I expect ????
Are these muliti spark systems a little harder on the plugs?
It seems they would be, with the increase of spark ??
Well they don't from my experience hurt the plug life, then again I change them frequently.
IMO, you will see minimal mpg increase and minimal performance increase. If your motor was carbed I might push towards your getting it, as it helps on cold starting and throttle response but being an efi engine, I would spend my money elsewhere. Thats my experience though, good luck with whatever you decide
psst.....save your money and put it towards a v8 or 4.0. Just messing with ya. later

you probally wont feel any power gains unless your current set up is faulty. however you may notice a smoother idle. plug wear will be a little more with reguler plugs because of the increased energy. just use platinum plugs. i would also suggest a set of there super conducter wires.
Thanks for the replies guys,
yeah it's a fresh FI 2.9 only got 2000 miles on 'er since the rebuild (see my pics in my gallery) and those miles where put
on in 3 weeks.she's my daily driver and my wifes on the weekends now!!! she'd rather drive this than her 98 GTP.
any hoo, I did put the Blaster Coil on and it did make a noticeable improvement in idle, and throttle response.
next thing I'm going to do is the plug wire upgrade,
in keeping with the motor paint scheme I think maybe some yellow 8.8mm wires with red boot ends or maybe red wires with black boots , what do ya think?
Jeezus Christ, now I sound like my wife when she's picking out curtains and paint for the bath room!!! LOL
oh yeah, I forgot to post this in my last post . I am running Autolite double platinums already,
after I do the wire upgrade, I can't imagine this motor can run any better than it runs now````she's perfect.
maybe I'll delete the MSD 6a ignition idea from my memory.
Again thanks for the info on my MSD question, I think that I'd see
better results in a exhuast upgrade, plan on keeping my stock
exhaust manifolds (they seem to flow pretty decent anyway)
and rather than mess around with the O2 sensor in a dually,
I think I'll just go with a bigger diameter exhuast.
I put the msd on my hard starting carbed 460 right after warrenty expired. Couldn't get the dealer to do anything. 10 revolutions minimum warm weather, more in winter. Dealer always parked it inside over night in winter, "THATS NORMAL" he says
my lincon same engine first piston everytime
msd didnt help
dropped something on carb once and had to buy a new one_ _ _ first piston everytime
I got msd for mine, I only saw a difference witht the blaster coil also at a high rpm. If you do go with the msd, make sure you dont use platinum plugs. With msd ignition system you should only run generics like autolite regulars or regular champions, and defineatly no split fires. (straight from the msd customer service phoneline after I called since I was going through plugs like crazy.)
