Okay, from searching previous posts, it appears the AX4N is the tranny to look for. One post said to look for an "X" on the door sticker...what door sticker is this? I live somewhat far from where most of these used cars will be located, so I need to know how to walk the salesman or owner through the ID steps by phone.
Also, if the car has the AX4S but it's rebuilt, what should I look for on a rebuild receipt that might indicate the trans has been upgraded?
You want to look on the "Vehicle Certification Label" (a/k/a the door sticker). You will see on the sticker a "TR" designation, and underneath that there will either be an "L" (AX4S) or an "X" (AX4N).
Many times a tranny will have a sticker on it with some rebuild info if the unit has been rebuilt by Ford, but I'm not sure if tranny shops do the same thing to their rebuilds.
