I have a 82 E-250 Club Wagon that has had everything in the front end replaced. This includes the steering gear, power steering pump and hoses, tie rod end, drag link, radius arms and bushings, king pins, even the rag joint between the gear and the steering shaft. However, I still get poor return to center and wander. I have had a full alignment done including caster, and still the problem. I would welcome anyones suggestions and ideas. I am at wits end about this problem.
Being that the gear was replaced, check the relationship of the pitman arm to the gear with the wheels poited straight forward. The pitman should rest even with the length of the gear and the frame{in other words, front to back, not a little off center}.If you find this to be wrong, look at the tie rod sleeves and notice if there is unequal spacing of the threads. This will indicate that for sure the gear itself is not centered.Another thing could be the tires as well as air pressure.Pump'um up to the max and re-drive.Also try cross rotating the tires. In the end,you just may want to try a different alignment shop.
