Steering stabilizers

Has anyone tried steering stabilizers? I have a 1999 f250 that wanders more then I like. I put on new tires, shocks and alinment checked. Still wanders. Any suggestions?

I have a not-ford truck that does the same thing. I also had everything checked and it's all OK. The only thing I didn't have looked at was the steering shaft from the column to the gear box.

I was watching '2 guys garage' one night and they were replacing the shaft on a RAM because of wandering problems. They claimed that the shaft (on the RAM at least) can wear out in as little as 50,000 miles, causing some play in the steering.

Just a thought.

It is a bad idea to bolt a steering stabilizer on until you find youre problem. They will mask the existing problem, but can also hide problems that arise until its too late. Once you figure out youre problem, throw one on. My bronco wandered quite a bit (TTB). It had just gotten an alignment and new tires, so I know that wasn't it. The stabilizer helped quite a bit. Needed something to help fight the ttb....

I bought mine off of ebay for 40. It is a Rough Country stabilizer. Also, unless you are running 35+" tires, there is no need to use a dual stabilizer setup.

The idea behind steering stabilizers is not to try to lessen any "wander" you might have when driving down the road. They are designed and intended to lessen the sharp spin of the steering wheel when you hit a rock, pothole, etc... with one front tire. My truck wanders a little bit with or without the stabilizer on it. It sure does help when driving over bumps and rocks off-road though.

I have a 97 250HD, auto tranny E40D, twin beam suspension, but do not see any stabilzer on it. I looked at the manual, and it shows some on the larger vehicles, but not on the HD. Is there a way to install this as an after market item? And where does it go? Thanks, C
