i want to change the interior from blue to tan. new carpet, dash pad, seats, headliner, door panels etc etc.
anyone ever PAINTED the plastic pieces? I was thinking krylon fusion..but i'm sure someone out there has done this exact thing before and knows the best product to use. tough part will be matching explorer seats to a carpet kit to vinyl paint to etc etc you get the idea.
a friend of mine painted the vynil in his car.and around the heat ducks all chiped(dont kno what panit he used) so watch out for that. the first time he dident wash it and it rubbed off on your hand. wash it good with varasol or something of the sort. good luck
I play paintball and one thing i have notices is paint from paintballs tends to take of regular spray paint, But I painted my mask with some of that fusions stuff and it is going on 2 years and it is hardly chipping and my mask gets some abuse too.
I changed my door panels to the the later molded style that I pulled out of about a 91 Ranger at the wreckers and I really like the improvement.I like the way they look vs the stock flat style.
yeah.. the new door panel offerings i've found online are pitiful at best. I'll try to find some that fit from the junkyard. I'm about to scrap they blue and go all black
I think the fussion paint works great. I had a freind that did his entire interior with it and it looks new after a year or more, It doesn't come off llike regular paint. The Blue looks great but I'm going with black on mine.
who can tell me that an explorer's rear seats will fit in my 87? Now that i have the side panels ALMOST out.. who wants to tell me what size star bit that is holding the seatbelt on
if you want quality OEM style paint use this stuff made by SEM, they make very high quality interior paint that wont peel or chip easily. I painted my ranger interior about a year ago and it still looks like new. Here's some pix:
before:
After:
I also went to my local PPG paint dealer and had them mix up some of that new lexus charcoal gray color and i painted some trim pieces to match my soon to be outside color.
