I just got a 79 F100 parts truck to update my 70 F100, and the steering column has a plastic cover. This truck is a custom, but has things like carpet, wood grain interior, nicer vinyl seat, non-race track trim.
What is the deal with the steering column cover? Does it have the older style metal column underneath, or is it like the modern columns found in trucks nowadays?
Sorry about the way I phrased that. Question, do we have a trading section in the classifieds? Or do I list things as "for sale" and define what it is I want in exchange in the ad?
Were all steering columns of this era plastic? Even the tilt columns? If so, I can't see why the guys with earlier trucks would want these in their trucks.
The collar was an alloy (pot metal & steel)
The column is steel.
The plastic parts are trim pieces to finish the column to the dash.
They snap off before the column is removed.
People get these columns for the TILT.
The 80's columns have the key on the column and don't look right in a 70's truck.
You can type the wording to need in the classifieds.
