Just picked up a '98 standard cab, 4cyl, 5 spd. Had the used truck dude change the stabilizer bars on it, and said I wanted to lube the rest of the suspension myself to see how well the ball joints and such took the new grease. There are no grease fittings. This truck has 82 K miles on it and needs grease. Do I have to drill and tap fittings on these ball joints...or what?
Thanks for the information Rockledge. Due to the lack of any kind of syringe I have what is called grease gun in a can, and also a can of white lithium grease in a preasurized can with a very small aplicator tube that pushes into the nozzle. I intend to slit the rubber sleeve, slightly of course, and see if it will put enough grease in there to have the desired effect. I'll also let you know how this works.
My tie rod end needs lube too, I have my syringe filled but got hung up on another project tonight so I'll be giving it a try tomorrow. If you clean the boot with solvent silicone sealer will seal the hole.

drilling doesn't work because there isn't enough room in the upper portion of the balljoint. cutting the boot won't work either because putting grease in the boot doesn't nothing buecause the grease needs to be put in the top and forced down to the bottom. replace them. they are cheap if yoiu do it yourself
