Everyone has an idea on oil... I would wait until 5000 miles before going synthetic, ( but i would change the oil at 500,3000, and then 5000 miles on a new engine). Anyway if they recomend 5-20 that should be fine and I would run what they recommend.

Yup, oil choice is like politics and religion. I'd use what's recommended, changing it (and the filter) at 500, 2000, then every 3,000 miles thereafter. Even the frequency of changes will be subject to debate but I'm sure most everyone will agree that no matter what brand you use, clean oil is what matters most.
I have been using Castrol 5-20, mainly because it is the easiest to find locally. No problems so far. Run the recommended viscosity and change at proper intervals and you will be fine.
I use Quaker State 5W20. Not entirely sure of Ford's reasons for using that grade of oil, but it's only a buck more than 5W30 or 10W30. And cheaper than any synthetic.
If I could find a synthetic oil in 5W20 I'd use it, but I guess I haven't been looking hard enough. Oil and filter changes already cost me 30 bucks or so, I don't want to spend any more than that. Even if it is only every 3 months.
My 01 4 cyl duratec is supposed to run 5w20. I use Mobil 1 5w30 and have 163,000 miles on it. I think the 5w20 recommendation has more to do with fuel mileage, but I'm not a Ford engineer so I don't know that for sure.

01_4cyl,
Have you used 5w30 since new? I'm sticking with 5w20 Motorcraft semi syn untill the warranty is up. The guys on BITOG would love to hear from you. There is a huge debate over the merits of 5w20 oil and I've never heard of anyone with that many miles on a 5w20 spec engine running 5w30 oil.
I ran Motorcraft 5w20 until the warranty ran out. Still runs great at 163,000. I just replaced the lower ball joints, which is no big deal after that many miles. I'd like to get the valves adjusted and replace the cam chain and sprokets. It's a little noisier on the top end than when it was new. It never used any oil and still runs strong. Another plus is the 30 mpg.
i get the 5 quart jug of castrol 5w20 at walmart, it's only like $8.50 and its way faster to fill up the engine then one quart at a time. They did carry the factory motorcraft filters but i dont think they do anymore cause i couldn't find them. But i remember paying like $3 or less for a filter there.
