Refer to the owners guide for your new truck for the recommended max weight you can tow. Depending on the weight of your boat trailer, you should be able to tow the boat without any trouble. Do you have a factory tow hitch and towing package?
The 4.0L Ranger is rated at 5700lbs. towing capacity. However, make sure you have a class 3 hitch and not just the bumper mount ball. I believe the bumper mount ball is only good for 2000lbs. max. If your boat is huge then it might not be a good idea to use the Ranger. I know with enclosed trailers you're only supposed to tow a single axle trailer and not a tandem. Good luck.
Thanks - I was confusing GVWR and GCWR. Thought I was screwed!
I do have the factory class III tow package - Looks like the max trailer weight is 5220lb for fx4 package with a max GCWR of 9500 - I should get a bigger boat!
Don't forget you don't want to be at the Max weight when towing. Make sure you have some room for comfort because if you hit a big hill esp. in traffic you will be wishing your boat was much lighter...
It will pull that boat with no problem, should be awsome. My Ranger is only rated at 3200lbs towing capacity due to the manual tranny (weaker clutch) and 3.73 gears. I've pulled a double-axle enclosed trailer weighing about 4500 lbs without any trouble, keeping 50mph over the mountain hills. Boats are a lot more aerodynamic and the Ranger will appreciate that for sure. Just be away of the smaller brakes on the Ranger, shouldn't be any trouble if the trailer has brakes.
