Talking heads

I ran to something new working on my truck. As you all know I'm turning it in to a performance truck. I was replacing the heads on it and found out their not 302 heads. Found their taller and look like they came off a 351w or 351m. Should I replace these with stock 302 heads or rebiuld them and put them bac on the engine. I love the power that comes off of them and am afraid I'll lose the power and performance they give. Thanks for you help that you all have been giving.

351w and 351M heads aren't interchangeable. Also, the 351W and 302 heads should swap out (size-wise, maybe not smog-wise). Wouldn't think they would be taller - are you talking about the cast iron heads or the valve covers? What are the valve diameters, engine year, and the head code (like C90E or something similar).

I'd keep it simple - rebuild the heads with a 3 angle valve job at the least, maybe a home porting job and/or mill 0.010" if you are ambitious. At least you know they'll fit back on. If you want performance, 302 heads are way down on the list of options. If you are going to get new heads, why not go with aftermarket aluminum heads? There are about a gazillion of them, and they're all better than stock.

The stock 351W heads would be slightly better than the 302 heads for perfomance just because they have slightly larger valves. If you stick with the heads you have now, I would diffently suggest putting in larger valves. I run a 1.94 for intake and a 1.6 for exhaust and i found i had a great increase in power. You can always have the heads milled as well, but keep in mind that with a set of flat top pistons you'd be about 9.5 compression, start milling too much and you'll bring your compression up more. Not that there is anything wrong with that but the high your compression, the higher grade gas you will need to prevent pinging. Hope this helps a little.
