I HAVE A 89 F-150 W/300. RECENTLY MY IGNITION ON THE COLUMN WENT BAD AND I HAVE BEEN STARTING IT WITH A SCREWDRIVER ACROSS THE SELONOID. BEFORE I ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE SWITCH IS THERE ANY SPECIAL TOOLS I MIGHT NEED TO REMOVE THE COLUMN OR THE SWITCH ITSELF? MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITH CRUISE ON TH STEERING WHEEL, & TILT.
89 F-150s, Broncos, and Mustangs were recalled about two years ago for an ignition switch change at Ford's expense. The hot pole on the switch was too close to ground and had a history of shorting and starting fires. Local dealer changed mine out (Bronco and Mustang). Switch is located on the column below dash. I had to replace my ignition switch on my 89, and I got a Ford switch, but I had to pay for it, does ford have to pay for this? Maybe I should get my money back?
Pastmaster, try going to www.nhtsa.dot.gov under the car safety column go into problems and issues and then enter into the recall section. This should answer your question
