1996 Explorer 02 sensor replacement

I have a code 153 on my explorer. i want to replace the 02 sensor but want to make sure i replace the correct one. As I lay under the car I see one at the bottom of the exhaust manifold before the cat. Is this the right one? ( bank 2 I think)

I have already replaced the one that is behind the cat that on top the exhaust tubing. ( it was real tough to get me hand up there to unsnal the connection!)

Is that it for 02 sensors on a Ford Explorer?

Thanks for any help you can offer!!!

Rich

A 1996 Explorer with a 4.0 V6 has 3 oxygen sensors. There is one below each exhaust manifold, and one after the cat.

I believe "Bank 2" is the driver's side, and "Bank 1" is the passenger side.

I was told bank 1 is driver, same side as cylinder 1. At least thats the way it is for the sport trac, but i was told all fords are the same.

Thanks for the information - does the 5.0 Liter engine also have 3 02 sensors like the V-6?

I have a '96 4.0 as well. When my code came up I went ahead and replaced all 3 while I was under there. I will tell you that I had better luck getting to the one on the passenger side by taking the wheel well out. And to make it worse the Ford guys forgot to put anti-sieze on the threads and it was a BEAR to get out. HINT; Don't forget the anti-sieze compound if you ever need to get them out again.

The '96 V8-5.o has 4 o2 sensors, one below each exhaust manifold, and one behind each cat. The 5.0 has two cat's.
