I guess Dr. Tranny's stuff is the first thing I should do and if the shudder goes away, then probably the tranny is good. Then I can change the fluid and filter.
Someone mentioned a clogged fuel filter being the problem. The fuel filter has about 17,000 miles on it, but I would think with electic fuel pump and high pressure that fuel flow would be constant. The fuel filter causing take off shudder sounds more like an older vehicle with a mechanical pump.
If you are concerned about clogged fuel filter, take the fuel filter out and blow in inlet real fast. One of my truck had a stall problem and I felt a little blockage when I blew in the filter, got a lot better after replacement. 5 min job. The filter had about 70k miles on it.
I doubt the fuel filter would be it. I'm taking it to a local tranny shop that works closely with and is trusted by my regular shop. They will test drive it and give me their best opinion on the problem and cost. Over the phone description of the washboard shudder on take off in first gear and he said it sounded like the forward clutches.
I have 1999 Ford F150 with a 4.2 V6 that shutter when the truck is in park is it true that can happen but when idle is ok and rpm is higher then 1300 rpm it does not do it does anyone know what it can be if it is not the torque converter let me know it shake at 1100 rpm thanks
It doesn't sound like Torque converter if the gear is in Park.

What do you think it is if it is not the torque converter ?? what should I look for and I can explain everthing I have done to the truck I have check all compression and it is great all pistons, spark, and fuel has been check it is ok now the motor is a rebuild and the tranny also is a rebuild the is no noise in the engine area the motor sounds great. I have ran out of ideas what it can be thats why I ask other for help and if you need any help I can try to help thanks a million.

I'd love to help but I have no idea.
Where are you located?
My Mountaineer has done this for 100,000 miles between 35-50 miles per hour under light throttle. I can change the fluid [ Mobil 1 ATF ] and it goes away for about 15,000 miles and then comes back. Installed a drain last fall so it will be much easier this to do this time. I guess you live and learn but I should have installed the drain plug 100,000 miles ago. This kind of adds to the theory as this type of shudder won't leave you stranded.
So this is my very first post on ford-trucks! Bought a 2001 F150 ECSB 5.4 4wd 3 weeks ago. Ever since ive owned the truck, Ive had a thump in the driveline when torque converter is under lockup. This is at highway speeds 60-75 when in 4th gear and light throttle, rpm increases bout 300 rpms and then a thump when disengaged. Driveshaft feels tight, no clang when holding brake and placed in reverse. Problem does not fix itself when holding brake pedal while letting TC lockup engage.
Took truck by local tranny shop for a free diagnosis, he confirmed torque converter shutter and recommended fluid change with ATF+4 since it has more friction modifier and to put in a bottle of shutter fix. I agreed with fluid change since truck has 158K miles and I have no clue of previous mx and the fluid has a slight burned smell to it.
Since my problem is only prevalent during TC engagement with no slipping while in lockup, would yall agree that fluid change + shutter fix could save my TC? Or....should I just spend $150 and buy a new TC and not hope $100 fluid/filter fix the problem? Ive got no problem dropping a tranny to replace the TC, im just worried if I milk the problem and when the clutches do go in the TC that they will contaminate the tranny itself and create a failure?
Also, has anyone heard of using ATF+4 instead of MERCON?
