I'm very surprised how many of you have had this done. My dad has had 2 done over the last few years and he has never had to do a liquid diet. They say just to have your evening meal done by 4P.M. and to start drinking the liquid at 6 or 7. Of course he gives us a show by how nasty that stuff tastes.
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to eat afterwards but you probably won't feel like it, still being groggy because of the medication. Anyway, good luck.

I had one in a small hospital about 15 years ago....no food after 6 pm the night before.... an enema (the nurse was my neighbor , this part was a little embarASSing)... no valuim, no lethal injection.... after the procedure, they pumped me full of barium and took pictures......

I'm glad they give you drugs now, it's pretty brutal without them

In my case the worst part is the thinking about it. the actual process wasn't that bad. the stuff they give you is supposed the make you not remember the procedure. Wrong! i remembered all of it. good luck!

As I recall the fasting period was only 24 hours and the Fleets was the evening prior to the procedure. I was given an anesthesia and really do not remember much of the actual procedure. I do remember the nurse waking me up when it was over and asking how I was feeling. My response was "well this gives a whole new meaning to the term "up yours" ". The Doctor came into the room to find out why we were both laughing so hard.

Seriously, you are correct in that the ability for us to have these periodic examinations is really amazing. Finding anomalies and nasties within our bods at an early stage increases the chances of solving the situation many-fold. How many of us can remember friends or family who have died from diseases that today are addressed in a routine manner.

Let us know how it all works for you Ruckus. Also as previously mentioned, go easy on the eating and work your way back up to the #6. BTW what is a #6?

Sorry to dump some more on you, but when you do the Fleets, I would almost rather be dieing of something. I have had this done to me several times, and it gets no better.

<O
Now for the part that makes it look like a walk in the park. The Fleets and checkup are nothing compared to what happens if you don't catch it early. I lucked out, and did not have to have a Bag. A polyp is a rupture in the intestine, that grows like a balloon. Each time you allow yourself to get plugged up(low fiber diet) then it ruptures again. Each time it ruptures ever so slight, it grows lesions to your other organs and abdominal cavity. Cancer is not the only threat here, if it grows a lesion to the wrong organ, it creates a open tube to that organ. Also, picture when a Lesion grows too your Bladder, need I say more about what happens. When they stitch or staple the intestines back together, they stick the huge inflatable tube in you to hold the two ends together and make the ends meet so there is no leakage. I hope I do not have to tell you how they get it in there.<O</O

It has been two years since they removed my Sigmoid Colon, and I still feel it when I lift anything to heavy. I nearly died from complications due to Lesions growing to my other body parts. You wake up with tubes in every, and I mean every orifice, and some they make to put the extra tubes in. You can not eat or drink anything for nearly a week. Then it is a liquid diet for another week, then you graduate to Jello.

<O
Pulps can and do turn into Cancer. The reason is again, lack of proper fiber in your diet and allowing yourself to get backed up even if you do not feel it.

The Polyps when they rupture and or crack allow cancer causing agents to be introduced into a open wound among other ways. It is not always hereditary
Sorry do not mean to dump on you, or be-little what you are going through, just a little advice from someone that has been there, and it went the other way. My advice, if you are not taking a Fiber supplement(regardless of age) then do it. If you are not getting your checkup, then do it. Preventinve means no complications. Early detection means staying alive. If this little rant will save even one of you, it is worth any cost.

After only one hour sleep last night I went to the clinic this morning, clean as a whistle. My appointment was at 9:30 AM.We went a little early and they took me right in and told me all the details of the upcoming colonoscopy. Then put a IV in me and wheeled me into the procedure room.My Dr. started talking to me, the nurse dimmed the lights and then I was out like a light. The next thing I know I am in the recovery room. They brought me oatmeal and coffee, then I got dressed and waited and waited for the Dr. to come in.Finally, he comes in and said he removed two polyps. He said they looked normal and would send them out for a biopsy and let me know the results in about five days.He told me most people want to stop at Bob Evans on the way home.He suggested that I do not do that. So, instead of Uncle Bob's we stopped at Red Lobster.I just had a small piece of fish and a couple small shrimp.I could not hardly wait to get home, if you know what I mean. Here it is 9:15 PM and I think the Fleets is still working. Thanks to all that wrote.I will let you all know the Biopsy results.IBeam, take care of yourself and thanks for the fiber advice. Thanks Again!

Glad to hear you came through the experience unscathed. Sounds very similar to my experience with the exception of the oatmeal and coffee. Had to fend for myself at Denny's.....

RangerRuss, Thanks for your support and the #6 at Uncle Bob's (Bob Evans) is served in a small bowl.I think it has hash browns on the bottom, then sausage gravy and topped off with a fried egg.The biscuits just top it off.I mentioned this to my sister and she thinks they have changed the menu since the last time I was there, so it may be another number now.Anyways, it is goood! Thanks and Take Care!

I hope everything checks out ok for you. I'm also very thankful for the recent advancements in medicine. I've had many of these done and in January the Doc removed 14 inches of my intesntine and I feel great now compared to before the operation. The crazy part is that only 3 days after having 14" of my gut chopped out I was able to eat anything I wanted, so we stopped by Captain D's on the way home from the hospital. I gained 40 pounds in only 3 months after the operation.
