I am having a Colonoscopy done Monday morning. My Dr. has me on a liquid diet (jello, broth and pulp free juices). My last meal was Thursday evening because I started this diet Friday morning.I tried Chicken broth and almost got sick.I ate some jello and a popsicle but that is getting old.Does anyone know of anything else that might be good to eat that is considered a clear liquid? Also, does this procedure seem normal? My neighbor told me that she just went in and drank some stuff to empty out and did not have to starve like this?Any suggestions you can come up with sure will be appreciated.
Beer is a clear liquid...my last one only required one day (the day before) then at night the gallon of crap, then an enema, you could be staying up all night. Make sure the bathroom is clear. They also have a pill out now that will empty you out, but most want you to take the liguid anyway just to make sure. Which reminds me I'm due.. Good luck, hope everything comes out ok.
I had one a few yrs ago. be thankful you don't have to drink that stuff to clear you out. It's called Golightly(sp) and it's the nastiest stuff you will EVER drink.
I only had to fast for 24 hours and drink 3 glasses of Sprite with this clean out fluid (I can't remeber the name) every 4 hours beginning 12 hours before the procedure.
My prep was the clear liquids, the citrus based gritty laxative, and "Fleet's In!"
Not the navy, but hey, it looks kind of like a submarine....
I was bummed, as I could see the TV screen and thought I'd be watching "This is your .......". Then he turned the valve on the IV and it was just like lethal injection.
Since they pump you full of air for a good look, be ready to have a "Blazing Saddles" scene when you wake up.
And, extra bonus, if they miss a turn and poke a hole in your gut, you get emergency abdominal surgery right then and there!
Tell them you want the polyps in a jar after they test them for cancer.
(if you have any)
Hint: When you wake up, if the nurse is crying in the corner and the Doc keeps looking away, you're in trouble.
85e150, Thanks for that pick me up senario. Here I am, I have not had anything you could call food since Thursday and am starving and half sick. Then you lay all this on me.Man, you are cruel.I get to start my Fleets Phospho Soda from 5:00-7:30 PM today. What type of positive comments do have for this? All kidding aside we are very fortunate to be able to have this test done.Alot of people died before these types of tests were available, and did not know they had a problem.Yes, we a very lucky.A few years ago (before my kidney was removed due to cancer) I had 3 pollups biopsied when I had the short version (sigmoidoscopy) done. They were okay. Now they want to do the full colonoscopy.I think the short sigmoidoscopy should be outlawed. They should go the full way or no way.Anyway, after it is over with tomorrow will I be able to eat right away? There is a Uncle Bob's (Bob Evans) about a block away from the clinic and I can almost taste the #6 on the menu.I will let you all know how everything comes out! Thanks to all that replied.
I'd go slow on the refuel after it's all over. Something light and not too much. Work your way back up to the #6.
As for the short Sig job, yes, I say do the full length look. A friend had to do the sig. He tried to get them to do the full job, but it was a gov't doc for an employment physical. Of course, they found something and he had to go back for the colonoscopy. Two preps and a big delay. Forget that sig deal.
85e150, I hope your friend will be okay.Sometimes the insurance companies will not allow the full check until something is found in the short sig. Then they call it "History of Polyps".Then the ins. co. will cover the Colonoscopy.I think it is ridiculous, but at least we have the opportunity to be checked even if we have to follow some silly procedures.Well, I better get ready for the 2.5 hour episode of Fleets Phospho Soda.I will probably be in the bathroom all evening.I will let you know how everything came out.Fun, Fun, Fun!
I have my second one coming up next month (last one was 3 years ago). I only have to go on the liquid diet for 24 hours prior and then 12 hours prior drink some Gatoraide that I dump this powder in to "clear things out" this time. Last time was that Golight (sp?) stuff. That was like drinking liquid aluminum, yuk.
I had one a few yrs ago and you know they give some Valium to RELAX you.Well there I was laying on my side all relaxed, and I told the nurses "Hey is this like date rape? You get me loaded and stick things up my .........!" They almost fell over.It was nothing.About the size of a pencil. And they expand everything with air and after it is all over, well the air has to come back out.......
Good luck on your procedure. Hope everything checkes out a'ok. Have had 3 or 4 0f these inthe last several years. They always gave me the lethal injection and I always wake up hungry. Last time they actualy gave me a sandwich & a drink. You are sure right about medicene today. Thank God or a lot of us would not be here.
