I have a '94 Ranger XLT. I hooked up a CB, and heard from someone that there is a product that allows you to use the truck's existing antenna for a CB antenna. Anyone else heard this, or better yet could anyone give me a link to anyplace that sells this? Thanks!
Radio Shack is a place to start. I think the output performance of these are for the most part not as good as a good quality CB antenna. If you don't want the looks of a big antenna on your rig, check out the little ones that stick to your back window and send the signal through the glass. Check the old post and you will find a discussion on these. Chris...
J.C. Whitney sells the adapter to hook to your radio antenna and run your CB. However, I think you will be very disappointed. I ran one of the through the window antennas on mine for a little while and I could not hardly get 3 blocks!! I doubt that you'll get much better with the radio antenna. If you are looking for a good setup with some great options on mounting, check out Firestix or maybe it's Firestick. Anyway, they have a web site and I purchased mine through Valco Electronics (www.valcoelectronics.com). They have some great options.
Like the above post I've also tried the glass mount model. I could talk farther than 3 blocks but not much farther. If you're going to the expense and trouble of setting up the radio and antenna, spend the same money for a good antenna and coax. Radio Shack sells all kinds of antenna mounts that cover a wide variety of applications. One I used is a gutter mount, then modified it so it sat in the top of the front stake pocket with the coax running between the bed walls, and into a rubber plug under the back of the cab. Firestick is an excellent choice of antenna.
