Hey yall, me and my dad have been trying to hook up our cbs, now i got alot of the wiring done for some reason when i push on my mic the red ant light comes on on my dads, i think there is something not set up right with the antenna, can anyone help me as to the proper way to have a whip antenna set up, and grounds or rubber washers or anything that need to there, please!
with power off, set the meter on ohms. then start testing the antenna wire, first by hooking the meter to the center pin of the connecter, and the other wire to the outer ground connector.
if you have a short, it will read 0 ohms. if not, it will read infinate .
if it is shorted, then disconnect the wire from the antenna, and do it again.
if it is not shorted this time, the problem is in the antenna.
You have one of 2 conditions. Either the coax you're using is no good or, the antenna mounting stud is installed incorrectly.
The stud that mount in the antenna mounting bracket has an insulating washer a flat washer and sometimes a star washer. The insulator should go on first then the flat washer and then the star washer.
Some times these antenna studs are bad. If you bought it new, take it back and get it replaced and be sure to put it together correctly.
