511 project update...

Cam is in. Lifters are in. Engine is running again. I almost have my timing where I want it. It seems to like about 26 degrees initial, and about 34 total, and right now I have 24/34. Tomorrow I will make another bushing for the MSD that will set it at 8 degrees of advance and it should be right on.

Once I have the timing set, I'll start tuning the carb. My idle mixture and main jets seem to be real close, but if I stab it from lower RPMs I get a hesitation before it picks up. I'm guessing the accelerator pumps are either drowning it or starving it. I'll have the wife watch for black smoke when I do it.

The 5.38 gears are in the rear axle. It took me about 9 hours to get a good wear pattern on the gears and the pinion preload set right. I can't wait to take em for a ride tomorrow. I'll tear into the front axle next weekend.

I'll keep you all posted how it goes tomorrow.

Patience is a virtue...when setting up gears, patience is the only way to go

It helps when you don't have to use the truck for anything work-related for another month ...

Well Scoot my hats off to ya!! I tried years ago to set rearend gears up right..Trying to get a good pattern..and gett em shimmed right.. I gave up and took it to the shop and had em set-up...

Oh ya I wanted to ask you what cam did you finally go with on the 511 ? I'am going to try Comp Cams XE274H on the D2TE 395" block I have... 230*/236* .576"/.576" lift.. it shows a rice nice TQ range from 2800rpm's up too 6K...

Looking forward Scoot to some footage of the new motor running and a Big Chi-Town coming off the back end!!

No Chi-Town, but if I can get them off the camera, I'll post videos later today. The wife was driving and I couldn't get her to hammer it.

The cam I went with was a Crower solid roller, 296/301 254/260, 108 installed at 102.5.

So far I like it alot.

Very Cool Scoot...Does that crower make them bottom end act a little better with the Victor on it?

They tell me I cant run one (Victor that is) on my truck..Street/strip motor...But according to everything I have ran combo wise thru the sim....It looks really good...It doesnt seem to like the RPM Intake...It starts detonating....and with the Vic..it Mellows right out? So Hell I'am going to use it with that cam..

Cant wait Brian to see the pics man..its been awhile dude!! you went 4.5* retarded... Hmmmmm...well hell..I keep for getting you live in the clouds!! LOL.
Oh But Brian...your no Damn Angel..lets get that straight right now!! lol..
