i just got back from NAPA and talked with the napa man about this. He told me that i can not interchange these parts. I was like ??? yes you can, and then explained why and everything that i have read here and in a FORD parts interchange book. Why you can, how you can, the entire deal. His only reply was i am not going to argue this with you. hmmmmmmmm????????? he said that the pushrods were going to be about $24 for ONE. I was like no no no that is crazy. Then i just walked out and i am going to call CarQuest here in town and see what they can get them for.
and on top of all of that he told me that i would have to pay a shipping fee for them

Just remember, most of the parts morons don't know jack unless the parts catalog says so. And everybody know the catalogs are wrong way to often. BTW I would have a word with the morons boss, that's not customer service when he says "i am not going to argue this with you." It's not his job to argue with you, it's his job to help you get what you want and need.
I went thru the same thing years ago when I changed the timing gears and chain in my 390 that had a retarded one.... The mananger in the store told me "its Illeagal" for me to sell you this Timing set......I said OK fine be that way!! I walked out the door went back in got another guy and told him I wanted a timing set for a 68 390 in a mustang!! No Problem!! Then I waved the part at the Manager going out the door and gave him the California Bird!!
why would it be illeagal for him to sell you that part?
This guy was about 60 and knows more then what i do because he said he had 50 pages of parts for FE motors. and if they would interchange then he would have one part number for all of them.
why would it be illeagal for him to sell you that part?
The key part of the story is "California". If you look in the Jeg's and Summit catalogs you'll see the statement (at the bottom of every page!):
"Some parts are not legal for sale or use in California on any pollution controlled motor vehicle".
And pollution control showed up pretty early in the Golden State - late sixties for passenger cars and a couple years later for trucks. So the manager dude was probably telling the truth. I don't know how strictly this law is enforced but it's better to adopt a "don't ask-don't tell" policy if you're buying parts in California. Or, do what I do, buy everything mail-order!
ok went to carquest when i got off work today. and guess what bingo they had roker arm (and the same part number) *** is it just me?*** they can get them to me in two days. The only question is the pushrods. Which length fo a 427.
Correct length is about 9.15". They use a ball on one end, and a cup on the other. I'd get the pushrods from DSC. They're new manufacture so you dont have to worry about him passing off bad used stuff to you.
