Cleaning Cigarette Tar

I have a piece of antique ham radio equipment that I recently picked up. I guess someone who had it before me was a smoker. There is a coating of that yellow cigarette tar on it. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting it off without damaging the paint?

I've used ammonia on smoke stained computers with good results.

Try 409 or windex... Both work really well... You probably won't be able to get it all but you can get most of it.

Use the shampoo for dandruff, not head & shoulders but the other one. I think its Selsun Blue. It has coal tar in it and will clean it right up with minimal damage. Put a little on a damp sponge and gently work into surface. Works great on seat leather.
