Hey, fellas. I went and sliced my wrist while workin' on my car today. About 2.5" long on the base of my left wrist. Went pretty deep, but didn't bleed a whole heck of a lot.
I've got those little strips that hold the wound together on there and it's wrapped up. Any tips on how to get it to heal up faster or better ways to bandage it. I do delivery for a living and this is really going to mess things up 'til it heals. Thanks.
If not, make sure you keep the wound clean, put something on it to prevent infection and keep it covered. Use the large gauze pads (sterile ones) with surgical tape.
Keep a good antibiotic ointment on it, such as Neosporin, and keep it clean. The Steristrips work well if it isnt to deep. But if it needed stitches and has been more than 24 hours (maybe a little less depending on the doctor) they wont suture it due to bacteria setting up. If it starts getting red around it and warm to the touch you could need an antibiotic. Is your tetnus shot current? If any doubt seek medical attention from your personal Doctor. I am a Paramedic and thats my best advise, hope it helps.
Bactine works wonders too. It's the small white squeeze bottle with a green cap. Keeps the area dry, because it's not petroleum based like Neosporin, Polysporin, Triple antibiotic, Baccitracin, etc. Those all work wonders if you wash it out with soap in between applications. The greasy meds collect dirt like crazy, and are mostly good for lighter surface wounds (and tattoos). Bactine or just plain old Hydrogen Peroxide would be my recommendation for a deep cut.
Here we often use bag balm, which farmers use on the utters of cows. Don't laugh; you can buy this at any farm store and it is loaded with lanolin, which heals wounds almost overnight. Here we swear by it, and I am not at all hesitant to recommend it for your use.
Yeah,do the peroxide. Just pour it in there. It'll foam, but won't hurt at all. Believe it or not, you can superglue it shut. Plain old superglue you get at the hardware store or Woolworth's. Creates an airtight seal for better healing. Do this and call me in the morning...that'll be $75, please.
a few yrs ago i cut my finger pretty good - option at the time (walk in on a sunday) was pretty simple - super glue. straight ol superglue. the doc cleaned it up real good and put some on from a fancy bottle and said "no charge, take care". Impressed me quite a bit. Needless to say, I keep a small bottle in my medicine cabinet "just in case" now - it DOES work, and works VERY well. A helluva lot better than bandaids. Will wear off over time by itself as well. sure beats duct tape!
