I have a 2002 XLT extended cab 4x4 auto. There is a rectangular hole in the dash, that is about 2" x 4" to the right of the airbag disconnect key slot.It is in the same spot that my 1999 ranger had an ash tray.Does anyone know what it is there for or goes in it?I bought the truck used and have not seen another truck with this hole.
My '02 has that cubbyhole and nicely holds my garage door opener and a pack of gum
I bought the truck new, and the ashtray was actually a black cylindrical thingy with a flip top lid that slid down inside the cupholder. I actually liked this feature because I don't smoke and all I had to do was lift it out of the cup holder and toss! Voila, another cupholder!
Hmm. I got the same black thing that fits in my cup holder. And I got the square hole by the air bag switch. So, I keep my smokes in the square hole, and my spare change/parking meter money in the ash tray.
I suppose it's possible they went back to the ashtray in the dash, as an option, in just the last few years. I've noticed on mine that if it didn't have the smoker package (and I dont' smoke), it would have had a total of six cupholders. Not sure why someone would need that many in a Ranger, LOL.
