I have a 75 Ford Truck with a 360 motor. The motor was completely disassembled and cleaned out at a machine shop, bored out, new cam bearings put in, new expansion plugs. All new internal parts, including a new, not rebuilt, oil pump. I put the motor together, and I am getting no oil to the heads. The pressure from the pump to the filter is good, the oil routing should go from there up to the heads, but none is getting there. Does anyone know if there is a valley plug up there, or maybe one there that shouldn't be? I ran the motor for about one minute, and no oil in the heads when I pulled the valve covers off. I put the motor together a while ago, I can't remember where the valley plugs all are. Help!
I would pull the rocker arms, pull the distributor, make up a shaft and turn the oil pump with a drill to help troubleshoot. Possible problems that come to mind are 1. you don't have the correct bolts in the rocker assembly...( the oil galley needs a necked down bolt to allow enough oil flow). or 2. cam bearings installed improperly...(the oil holes must line up with the block or you won't get flow to the top of the engine...I think I'm correct on this...I'll pull my book tonight and check for sure).
Also you need to make sure you've got the oil gallery plug installed that goes behind the distributor shaft. You'll have to pull the dizzy out then remove the timing cover.
I don't remember, I put this motor together some time ago. I suppose anything is possible. I can't remember where the oil comes into the head, if there is an oil hole where the gasket would cover, of it is under the legs for the rockers.
Guys, there's a much simpler explanation for this. There's one necked down bolt for the rocker shaft assembly on each side. It's necked down to allow oil to flow up to the head. If these were installed in the wrong place, very little or no oil would get up to the rocker shafts.
While your there confirm the oil holes in the rocker shafts are pointing down. That is another common thing that be can be mixed up also. Better to check now if any doubts. Hope it's just the wrong bolt in place. Easy fix. G.
i had a similar problem, no oil to passenger side head, the vatting and machine work didn't get the dirt dobber out of the oil hole in the block and dum me didn't check it while putting the engine together, had to pull head and intake off to get the dirt out works fine now, hope ya got the head gaskets on right.
