I have a miss on my 01 Supercrew with the 4.6L. It doesn't throw any codes, but you can feel the miss during accelleration. The plugs are a couple months old, and I could't see anything loose. Does anyone have any thoughts on this.
I thought the COP was all one peice with the boot. I do have a couple extra coil packs that I thought about switching a couple at a time to see if that is the problem.
Mine finally threw a code today (took about 3 days, but then that was only 20 miles as the truck doesn't really go anywere). Ended up being a bad COP (#6). Replaced the COP and all is good.
Hello,Mine through a code that said a missfire on cylinder #1. Replaced the coil and the plug, ran fine for about 9 days and then started sputtering again and through the same code on the same cylinder. What can I do now? Is there a chance some water got trapped around the plug when I had the engine detailed? If so, shouldn't it have dried up(evaporated)by now? Thanks
man i haven't the foggiest. whatever the design is it seems to have one fatal flaw. it doesn't like moisture. it seems fantastically sealed from the factory but with age, parts replacement and/or water under hood look out! i'm gonna take mine over to ford here and see how much they're gonna rip me off to fix it whenever I get the money saved up. can't be too terribly much considering i've replaced all the parts already.
I have a 98 F-150 4.6L had missing problem, spent $900 at dealer for new intake gaskets, tune up, It kept happening, turns out it was the coolant line on the passenger side fire wall right above the rear spark plug was leaking into the spark plug boot area and shorting it out temporarily!! Check this for leakage, good luck...
Mine is fixed. Ended up being a completely roasted spark plug wire. Didn't even think of replacing them since they only had about 5k from dealer replacement. I got suspicious after a while, took the wire apart at the boot and BAM. 'Bout 6 inches of the wire was toasted. No element left inside or anything. Of course Ford won't replace...says it's been too long and my warranty for the wires is voided. Stealership...
Oh well, now I have home made Superconductors up under there. Red wires are pretty!
