rough idle

rough idle
2005 with the 5.4, 1300 miles
I've noticed a rough idle on cold starts. It smooths out quickly as it warms up and arrives at normal rpm. No hesitation or miss at speed or under load. Gets comparable gas milaege to what the rest of ya indicate. I'm wondering if this is what I can expect with a new engine untill it breaks in. My 95 Bronco (5.0) always ran smooth from start-up. Just curious what ya all think. I'm a long way from my dealer and not in hurry to take it in.
Thanks,
Mike

As far as me, I have the 4.6 in a '04 Screw. I did not have any problems like that with my truck. I purchased mine in July of '04. At the very first oil change, I switched to FULL synthetic motor oil. I currently have 24,919 miles on my truck & knock on wood, I have not had any problems with my motor, of any kind. I would highly reccommend, TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. DON'T let it keep going and not do anything about it. "Haste makes waste". Get it checked out. Remember.....you don't have to take it to the dealer you bought it from. They would probably prefer that you did though. But by all means, take it to a Ford shop.

I too have the same problem. At first my RPM's were going up when I started the truck ans within a couple of seconds, it would come down and idle fine. I took it into the dealer and they reflashed the PCM. Now I am having exactly what you have described and oinly have 1400 miles on the odo. Someone please help us find a solution!

ttincali and medik13,
I took my truck to the dealer and they updated the computer. I was told that there is a TSB for the “rough idle on cold starts” condition. So far it is considerably better. The sticker under the hood is hard to read but it looks like TSB 5102. I’ll keep you posted on the improvement. Good luck.
