I just got my C6 back from being rebuilt, it was destroyed There are a handful of reasons that may have caused this, one of them being a bent flex-plate which would have caused the torque converter to sit wrong in the pump. Anyway, I need to check the runout on the flexplate (if it is bent up) and was wondering what the maximum limits should be..... a couple thousandths or what? I'm looking for an exact range, it is for a '71 400
the only spec i see in the factory engine manual is for OD run-out, which i take to mean lateral woble(affecting ring gear/starter) when looking at the back of the engine/flexplate. that spec is .020". the flex is held in place by six bolts on the crank and four on the converter, i think any warpage would be drawn out by the force of all those mount points? but if you can see that the flex is obviously warped/bent when lying on a flat surface....i don't have the chassis manual in front of me but i'll try to find it.
I would bolt the torque converter up to the flex-plate and check the run-out on the converter snout. This is the place where any wobble is going the be a problem. If I had any more than 1-2 thou. I would wait until I could talk to a real transmission man. Good luck.
