I posted in the bronco forum, but here to, just in case you guys have some good ideas. I have a 90 bronco with a 351.......engine seems to have become sluggish over the past week. Especially when accelorating from a stop/idle position. Seems to be more in the engine than drive train. Had a new gas tank put in not long ago.......with new filters and plugs. Any ideas?
Don ,
Id look at the usual things first , Timing , air filter , Pcv , Cap , Rotor . Check the fuel pressure as well . Its really hard to say ? How many miles on the Bronco ? Any Check Engine lights ? In todays engines a bad sensor can deliver a sluggish performance as well as what made engines sluggish yrs ago . Notice any change in mileage ? If an O2 sensor fails , the computer will err on the side of lean ... you ll get great mileage but the truck wont hardly haul itself out of dip in the road . Just look at the simple things first before you spend too much .

yeah, the filter is new. I've been hearing about the pcv valve. What does this actually do? I was told that i might have to pull the intake to get at it.....which i don't want to get involved in, so if i have to, i'll send the vehicle to a shop for it. I'm getting common responses on the dis cap too. The truck has 120,000 miles on it. Not beat on at all and serviced regularly. Keep the thoughts common before I have to start dishing out green. Thanx.
Don ,
The PCV basically regulates and vents crankcase gases . And it may be in a hard to reach place , but I dont think you have to remove the intake to reach it and replace it . If I remember correctly , the PCV on the 351 is on the left vavle cover right up front ? Youll see a hose running from the vavle to the air filter box . Dont forget to change the filter inside the air box for the PCV , its under the engines air filter .A new PCV and its filter will run you less than $10 and less than a 30 min job .
