Triton 4.6, new air filter, throttle body cleaned, new fuel filter. Seems sluggish off idle, and when I let off accelerator, rpm's take a few seconds to come down. If the truck is setting still, a quick hit on the throttle takes a second for the engine to build rpm's. Any ideas?
So, today I notice a slight rattle coming from what seems like behind the cab, and acceleration is non-existent! I can floor it in low gear from a dead stop and it doesn't go any faster than babying it! No acceleration, takes forever to get to speed, but will go highway speeds, just no acceleration getting there.
Well, no fumes, and maybe the transmission! Today while going to work, I turned a corner and the transmission would not shift. Stayed in first until I slowed and pulled over, just before stopping it shifted into second. Took ooff again, and it shifts, but shifting weird. Sometimes too fast, sometimes too slow and sometimes too hard WTH! I checked the fluid level, no problem, fluid is bright red and transluscent, doesn't smell burnt.
I called my local Ford dealer, told them what was going on. They wanted to know if I had a light on. No warning light, was told they won't get a code unless a light is on, WTH!
There could be a code in there. The MIL usually comes on and stays on when the code is emissions related. You don't always get a MIL on driveability issues. Get a scan and see what is there for starters and go from there.
Transmission is toast! On my way to work, getting on the highway, won't shift to third. Slowing to pull over and it shifts hard. Get back on, next hill, no power. Engine rpm's climbing, truck not moving forward. Pull off, call the Ford dealer, got it towed in.
I've got an extended warranty on the truck, so dealer is tearing the transmission down for an inspection, hope they cover it!
Extended warranty is covering the repair, excepting the $100 deductible. This is the first time I've bought an extended warranty on a used truck, and glad I did. Should be back on the road Friday!
