Around these parts, a "truck bed" is something in the sleeper compartment of a big rig. I have never heard anyone actually speaking to me face to face call the back portion of a pickup a truck "bed", only here and in TV ads.
In normal conversation, I say "box".
How about you?

Yep, I always remember them being "Flatdecks" until the Eagles came out with that song that referred to a "flatbed Ford".
But I wasn't referring to flatdecks.
Out here I've always called it a bed, as does everyone else. And that accessory that you can put on top of the bed, we call a Camper Shell. I'd never seen or heard it refered to as a 'Cap' till I joined FTE. -TD
I use both terms. ie. If i'm telling someone to put something in the truck i'll say, "put that in the bed". If i'm describing my truck i'll say, " it's a 95 F-150 supercab short box". Don't know why, that's just the way i've always done it. Carl
