I bought the Sylvania Silverstar headlight bulbs but I can't figure out how to open the assembly up.
I see the Torx screws on the top but not sure if they are holding it in.
2003 250 SD.
The 150's have two metal tabs above the headlight (with hood open), you pull up the tabs and push them back a little and the whole headlight comes out. I assume the 250's have a similiar system, if not check your owner's manual.

You DO NOT need to dissassemble anything. Just pull the harness connector off of the existing bulb, turn the circular retainer counter-clockwise to release the old bulb, and then pull the old bulb out of the headlamp housing. To install the new ones, just reverse that process. NO DISSASSEMBLY NEEDED !!!!
Found the aforementioned plug. Only problem is I have to remove the batteries and battery box to get to it. I can't get my paw to the plug. Heck, I can't even see the one on the driver's side due to the battery box.
Anyone know what the part number would be for the heavier wiring harness for the upgraded lights? There are several at Summit, I dunno' if I should select H2 or H4.

wow you must have some huge ol paws, I don't see many people with ones bigger than mine and its tight but I was able to snake it around. GF changed the last ones for me. On a milk crate of course.

Yeah, got big paws, about the size of a 5 gallon bucket lid. 6 foot 9 and 370 pounds.
Kidding.....
Naw, got regular size paws and everything else. There is only about 2-3 inches between the batt box and the plug. I can't turn my hand. I'm NOT putting a wrench on it.
No biggie, been wanting to get rid of the box anyway.
Yes, the lights will work but not to their highest intensity. It takes a larger gauge wire to get more juice to the Silverstars. The factory wire is I think 16 gauge. 16 won't pull enough amperage through.
I could rig it up myself with relays and better wire but it's easier to just buy it "plug 'n play".
7. Do I need a ballast to operate SilverStars in my car?
No. SilverStar is a "plug and play" replacement halogen capsule or sealed beam to upgrade the performance of your headlights. SilverStar does not require a ballast or any special wiring.

I read that, but that's the manufacturer trying to sell a product. You'll notice they said "special" wiring. There ain't nothing "special" about a larger wire. Nobody I've seen even mentions a ballast. I read many pages about upgraded harnesses. The main things they say is that you can have a meltdown OVER TIME and also will not deliver sufficent power to the lights. Here is just one of the many rants:
=============
"An upgraded lighting wiring harness connects the battery straight to your headlights. The stock system is designed to do this but there is quite a bit of voltage drop by the time the current gets through the distribution center and through the puny high gauge stock wiring. This problem is further amplified during high current draw such as driving with your fog lights and headlights or using your high beams. "

I'd rather spend the less than 40 bucks they want for an upgraded harness than have possible problems at the worst time. I believe it's not an "if" but a "when".
Just another step to make sure everything is up to snuff.
And of course, the opinion of many others.
But hey, I really do appreciate all the input ya'll have given. It helps me see both sides of the story and make a decision.
