Hello All!
So at 31 years old I finally took the plunge and got myself a 2002 F-250 V10. Check out my gallery!
I'm glad to be a member, I can see that there is plenty to learn here.
So I'll start off by asking my first questions: What products and and where (website wise, that is, or close to Oceanside, Ca) can I find the following products:
1. Stereo (the installed on seems to be a non-standard large size)
2. Cold Air Intake - are they really 200+ dollars??
3. exhaust - what's the best sounding one? Flowmaster (which one)?
4. opinions on wheel spacers and which ones? My tires slightly rub the leaf springs at full turn
Also, what is the stock gearing on my truck? With 39.5" tires, what is the proper gearing? The only towing I do is an occasional camping trip with a 3k lbs tent trailer. Would that be front and rear gearing? What's the price range of that?
Ditto what FordFast said, 4.30's if you're not going to tow anything larger than that popup tent. If you think you might go with a toybox or bigger, you may want to consider 4.88's or even 5.13's
Any opinions about wheel spacers? My tires rub the leaf springs at full articulation. It's not bad, and I could live with it, but spacers sound like a solution. I've heard they add stress to the wheel bearings. Is that a big expense?
Greetings from CenCal. And welcome Congrat's on your SD!
1. Stereo stuff is easy to find. Getting it installed properly is the trick. I have an aftermarket system in my SD and have come to realize that I like the larger buttons and ease-of-use of the receiver better! Dowt!!! Sub-woofer enclosures are available, if that's part of your plan, or a good stereo shop should be able to fabricate.
2. Skip the C.A.I. and just get a filter element. Plenty of conversation here on FTE about the oveall bang-for-the-buck value of the C.A.I.'s. I certainly can't speak for everyone, but the overall opinion seems to be that they aren't worth the $$$.
3. Check out the first couple of threads here on this FTE forum. Click on the truck then go to aftermarket on the "New Users..." thread. Scroll down about 2/3rds the way down until you see what lift fits what tires + gear ratio info. But yes, with 39's, 4.30:1 ratio would be suggested as mentioned previously.
4. Exhaust changes? Here in CA? Good one, that was funny!!!
Best,
DS

ok... for all you crew cab guys like myself.... just so you know if you want to put 2 10" subs in your truck you can... they try to get you to put 8s at the audio shop but I found a fix that was waaay better ... underneath your rear seat there are 4 bolts that hold seat to frame...unbolt and pull out seat then redrill holes in top of frame appx. 2or3 inches forward.. reinstall seat and viola you have room to fit a regular truck box in the back and wont even miss the couple of inches! Cold air... YES YES YES its great drops your EGT's WAAAAY low on a diesel... so I could only imagine what it would do for your V10 and with a V10 I'd go flow
