in the new lmc truck catolog. there is a set of full length header,s for flatheads.anybody else seen them . i called them to ask if they will fit the 49f1 but they have no tech line. my luck if i buy them they w'ont fit. thanks ,tracy
Just call their order line, they'll shift you to someone who knows, or will find out for you from the mfr. Frankly, it's not likely anyone at LMC will know, but I've had good results asking, they will find out for you.
Are you talking about the #48-6002's? I can't see how they'd clear the clutch/brake assembly and crossmember, unless they drop way down...
Even if they do fit I'd be more concerned with the lack of back pressure created by the 2 1/2" collector. Conventional wisdom says flatheads do better with 1 3/4" pipes all the way out for duals. I run 2" on my 48 from the muffler on back and have been thinking about replacing with 1 3/4" straight pipes.
The full length headers would look great on a T-bucket tho...
I agree, 2-1/2 has to be for show, not performance. I believe flatties like shorter primary pipes, too, not like they're running at even 6,000 RPM.
I think 1-3/4 should be right for the system, but I can't see how 2" would be a problem. Some of the folks on The Other Board swear 2" is required, but I think it more for tone than performance. Are you running headers? I'm trying to use some chrome Fenton cast iron headers and plan on 1-3/4" system with turbo mufflers. ("Trying" because the driver's side hits the steering box, but hey, I got them for $20.....)
I've heard about that problem with Fenton's. Seems like you usually have to end up grinding some off or moving the engine toward the passenger side to make them fit.
I'm running tube headers that I got from either Red's or Patrick's - can't remember which and they both sell a similar header. They were nickel plated, but after 4 years I can't tell there's any plating left on them. The headers are 1 3/4" and my exhaust extensions are 1 3/4". Then I dump into 2" Smithy's and keep 2" from there out. The new Smithy's are fiberglass and are about all blown out, but they are a cheap reproduction compared to originals and end up rusting/breaking around the welded pipe stubs. That's why I'm considering losing the mufflers all together and just running straight pipes. I like the 2" pipes but 1 3/4" would be easier to match to the exhaust extensions. Will see when the time comes for a new system.
i run stock exhaust on factory manifold's. going to put new on soon and i was checking in on this.i am going to use the stock setup and run 1,3/4 all the way.it has rusted out 2 inch on it now. yes the part number on the header is the 48-6002's.i have read much on this in the forum and learn that the flat head run,s better on 1,3/4 set up. ( if i read right ) thanks, tracy
