I was looking in a magazine today and Doetsch has a 5" Lift for 97-03 2wd F150s, for $700. It consists of 3" Lift Spindles and 2" Lift Coils. I was wondering if anyone has this or thinks it is good? Also, does anyone have a body lift on their F150? I was thinking of adding the Doetsch 5" Lift and a Performance Accessories 3" Body Lift, along with some 285-75-16 Pro Comp ATs. I'm in the market for a affordable lift and slightly larger tires, I'm just tired of having a small F150, lol. Thanks for any input.
I've actually got doetsch shocks, which are really good for being really cheap. My truck is lowered though....
body lifts are OKAY, but they look cheap and aren't as "cool" as a full suspension lift. If you want more lift, just get the fabtech crossmember performance lift, 7.5" It's made of spindles and springs, and relocates the lower controll arm to correct alignment.
And the tires you want are much too small for the 8 inches of lift you plan. with 6-7.5 of lift, you need either 35x12.50x16 or 315/75/16....
Ya, now that I think about it, the doetsch lift plus the body lift would be $1000, and installation would make it run prolly $350 more, that $1350 right there. I could have a much cleaner and better lift for $1100 with the Fabtech, and the tires, I think I'll have to stick with 33s at the most, I'm driving back and forth from college next fall and I'm going to need acceptable gas mileage, I would love to go with 35s though. I think I'll look more into the Fabtech lifts, might even look at the Pro Comp Lifts. Thanks
to compensate for your mpg, get gears. about 500 installed, but the price can vary GREATLY depending on what deal you can find.
with 33's, try 4.10's. on 35's, go with 4.56's.
if you're just going to run 33's, just get a spindle lift up front and blocks out back as needed. you'll have enough lift to stuff 33's....and $$ leftover for gears!
yeah, get some 3" spindles and toss a block in the rear. you may have to trim a little off the front lower valance, but that's with any lift/tire combo.
5" on 33" will be too much lift, not enough tire. the spindle and block will run you like...300-400 bucks, plus install if you are not doing it yourself. You can pretty much fit 33" tires in the rear stock, but a little lift will help out with suspension clearance for the bumps.
Alright, I've purdy much decided on the 3" spindles and Chamber Wheels(diamond cut), and for right now I'm going to run some pull offs my friend has, till I get some more money for some 33s, the pull offs are 285s from his Z71. Your F150 does look SWEET 4.2manster, I'm just not into the lowering thing though, when I'm in a truck I like to tower over everybody, even though I'm not towering over much of anyone right now...lol Thanks
i ran 285/75/16's before even doing a 3" body lift. no troubles at all 'cept one day racing out of a parking lot bottomed out...went same day and bought the performance accessories 3" body lift for $165 installed it a week later, only took me and my bro about 5-6 hrs of work.
is yours a 2wd hossman? reason i am asking is cause 2wds sit a good bit lower than 4wds and a lot more prown to rubbing. Do you have any pictures of your truck? Does the body lift look cheap at all? Did the kit come with new radiator mounts, and new bumper brackets? Anything not fit too well after the body lift? Thanks
mr. man my 01 is a 2wd. i ran the 285/75/16 for about 2 mos before i bottomed out one day, went to oreillys that day and ordered the performance accessories 3" body lift kit. and to answer your questions yes it came w/ everything, even a shifter extension, only thing i didnt like about the kit was that the shifter extension has to be welded on to the shifter; so i said forget about it; i just cut my shift boot to make it fit right. getting the shifter apart is a half day job all on its own, i didnt feel like tearing into that end of it all. all in all i have been quite satisfied w/ the kit, they give you locktight w/ the kit and, they inform you in the instructions to check and retighten the bolts after 500 miles or so, i did and they wouldnt budge. right now i am looking at doing a suspension lift (or a five lug brake conversion on my '92 lx 5.0 mustang vert) so if anyone knows any good deals on a relatively inexpensive, yet larger lift, please let me know.
my bad i forgot to include pics....they got erased on a crashed computer; i will post some as soon as i have a chance to take some more. by the way the kit does not look cheap, it comes w/ some beefy nylon supports and strong bolts along w/ the inserts for under the bed along the frame rail that have to be welded in as well. you can also purchase some vinyl insert pieces that mount to the bed and cover the gap between the bed and the frame rail, i did not purchase those since i decided i will make my own; just havent gotten around to that part yet.
