Okay, i figured out how to run the koeo test, but have seen koer mentioned, but cant find instructions on how to do it? Anybody point me to a how to? Will there be different codes between koeo and koer on the same vehicle? gotta love these computers!
Haynes has an emissions manual which has the procedures - you basically just turn the key on with the STI jumpered and watch for light. the readout is different and the procedure is interactive - you have to repond to the single flash during the computer test by variously pressing the brake, the O/D button and a throttle response test depending on vehicle or it will add a code if it doesn't see these action at the right time. I believe the procedure is at fordfuelinjection.com also. they have the codes along with which ones apply to which tests or to both tests.
-Turn Engine ON with STI grounded
-You'll see either 3(I-6) or 4(V-8) flashes, Now press the brake(hold it maybe 5 seconds), turn the steering wheel(1/2 to the right, then left), and cycle the O/D switch(E4OD)
-After maybe 30 seconds, you'll see a single flash....its your cue to rev up the engine hard.
What if i have a CEL comeing on after driving for a while ? can i hookup to the tester and read it ? Or do i have to jump through all of those hoops? The CEL only comes on after maybe 30 minutes.
I bought one of these a while back (Equus 3145). Haven't used it on the pickup, but it came in very handy with my dad's old thunderbird. Comes with a pretty good instruction manual, and removes a lot of the doubt. Not bad for about $30 bucks. I think I got mine from the local Autozone at the time.
