X Factor

I've never really cared for the exhaust note from my truck. I spent close to $250 for true duals with Turbo II mufflers and could never really warm to the sound.

I've got a bud who works in his Dad's auto repair shop and talked to him about straight piping my exhaust and adding an X pipe.

Drove up today, we cut the mufflers out, he fabbed the X pipe, welded the pipe in and now I have one mean sounding airplane engine.

Hahaha

It's loud and I'm deaf.

It did change the tone at idle due to the X pipe and sounds much better all around.

The way I see it, there are a few benefits. I have to keep my foot out of it so my milage should go up considerably. It's not that loud until 2200 RPMS, after that, holy moly.

Most people will be looking in the sky for the low flying plane and may miss me as I blat my way past.

I'll run it this way until I get a ticket, until then I'll enjoy my new noise maker.

I'll get a pic tomorrow.

It's very similar to the X pipe summit offers.

It sounds much nicer with all 6 cylinders firing in each exhaust. At idle with the 268H cam, it sounds choice. I had to laugh as I drove past a couple of kids in a dodge as their mouths gaped in awe of the mighty roar coming from my truck.

I have no idea on how to post a sound clip. Someone throw me a bone on what I need to do it.

I really must say, Ive been out with friends all the time, I hang out with the ricers, but quite a few v8s make there way out there, i alot of comments on the exhaust note in my truck, seems to be "perfect" because its not loud and intrusive, but its there. I have a 3 inch cat back into a flowmaster 1 in dual out and some nice 18 inch X 3.5 inch tips.

DUDE!think a single would sound like that?run duals to about midway then into a single pipe?I think you put the nail in the coffin.I am gonna get that postal jeep and drop a 300 I6(Carb,No gov't smog junk) in it......Just cause it sound so cool!

Just to let in on the game plan,I want to run the exhaust to the rear,up thought the floor(with a larger heat shield pipe around it),and though the roof.Have it only sticking out about and inch or so.Just tall enough so I can put a raised lip on the roof and a cap around the pipe like one of those shower beauty rings that cover the hole in teh wall.Install flame throwers, and drive the crap out of it........Hee hee hee,Fire breathing Postal jeep that sounds like a spitfire.

I think it would sound very close if not the same. All 6 cylinders would be firing out of the same output. You may lose some of the effect of the duals with only one output though.

Some of the benefits of running loud pipes have been that I'm getting over 15 MPG now, I wear my seatbelt all the time, I rarely take the truck over 2500 rpm and drive it like an old lady from Pasadena.

I'm going to ty and leave it as is till mid july for some local truck pulls. After that I'll put some Flowtech Redhots on it to try and lose some of the bark.

I like it

At an idle it has Harley Davidson quality to it. Very healthy sound. "I like it"
