302 Throttle Body Trouble
I have an '88 302 with 190,000 miles on it. The throttle body seems to stick periodically (more frequently lately) and not return to normal idle. I have removed and cleaned it. When it happens, I can feel a slight hard spot in the accelerator and it then sticks above it. If I pop the accelerator real quick, it will come down. It can stick at 2000 rpm, then quick jab on the gas and it comes down until I hit the gas again. Like I said, it has a slight hard spot when it happens. I have removed all linkages and isolated it to the shaft with the butterfly valves. Any suggestions? Do these throttle bodies wear out like carb throttle bodies? Thanks, Dan

I would think that any throttle body could get subjected to the wear that you're explaining. What I'm wondering is if there is a groove that had developed in the bore, around where the plates set at idle ? I would guess that you would've seen this problem when you held the plates wide open for the cleaning you mentioned that was done.More then likely, the problem is that the shaft for the plates is worn and the hole for the shaft has become oversize, allowing the shaft to **** at an angle when it rests back at idle. A closer look at the shaft,the plates & the spring end of the shaft should reveal the real culprit
