Fuel filter replacement

Fuel filter replacement
I purchased a new fuel filter to replace the original. Upon inspection of the old one, I only saw one of the safety clips that help hold the fuel filter outlets to the fuel line. On other vehicles there were clips on both sides. Did Ford go cheap on only supply one clip or did a bone head at the assembly plant only give me one of two?
Note: The new Motorcraft fuel filter contains no clips.

When I replaced mine on my 2000, it had no outside clips. It has the inside ones that require that special tool that suppose to slide inside and release the filter. Mine had been done prior to me and one side the clip/clamp on theinside was bent really bad. Went to my local NAPA and they sold me a replacment that looked nothing like the original but infact DOES work. Ford wants you to buy the whole line for the little clamp/clip on the inside. Hoped this helps.

UPDATE: I originally thought that the factory forgot to put on the second clamp until I looked at my Chiltons manual. The picture had only one clamp also. Therefore, Ford went cheap. Probably save $0.25 by eliminating one clip. It is pretty secure up there and I just reused the one clip.
Note: The current Motorcraft part # is different than the manual. Physically, they are the same. I don't have the new number handy at this time.
The combination of gas and rust proofing sure makes a nasty tar on the hands and arms. Had to use gas to get it off.
