My $4.50 adjustable tailgate modification

I did multiple searches and I didn't see this anywhere...

I love how the new GM mid-size trucks have the adjustable tailgate. By latching the cables on a higher screw, it leaves the tailgate at an angle so you can haul long items and they won't slide out.

I just replaced the top screw on each tailgate latch (on the bed) with the same type of screw found on the bottom on the latch (The one that holds the cable)

Part # N806909S100 This is for a 1998 Ranger. My dad has a 2005 and the screws are over $5.00 each.

I posted pictures in my photo gallery. Link to Gallery

It will probably be a $100.00 option next year.

These bolts were $2.28 each from the Ford Dealer. For some reason, they were $5.85 each for a 2005 Ranger.

Either that or the price of the bolts will be $50 a piece.

2K3 Mach that's a great little mod, it's something I will be doing on my own '98 real soon.

I got the bolts for $2.85 ea. at Ford. They were down to their last two bolts, so apparently your great idea is spreading fast. Is that torx size T-45? My T-50 was too big, and my T-40 too small.

Great idea! I think I'll go play in the salvage yard this weekend, too.
