you don't want to unhook the rod... it holds the wastegate closed... the spring pressure in the actuator supplies the force to hold it till it gets to 20 psi or so of boost... all you want to unhook is the red vaccum tube... once you unhook it, plug the end of it to seal it... if you unhooked the rod... hook it back up... you are dumping your boost..!
Just be sure to monitor your boost, you don't want to blow your engine, or some monster boost to open the intake valve when the piston is coming up....

i don't think this is a potential problem if the rest of your truck is stock, or if you have some mods for that matter... all you are doing by removing the vaccum line is preventing the wastegate from dumping boost BEFORE your psd builds enough boost to overcome the spring in the actuator and open the wastegate... the system starts to dump boost at as low a pressure as 5 psi.... i believe the wastegate will open manually when the boost starts to get above 20 psi, (someone chime in here if you know more about this), guys on this forum say they can get over 30 psi, but that isn't reccomended for your stock turbo.. so... you are not preventing the wastegate from dumping boost.. and you are not preventing the actuator from opening the wastegate, you are preventing the actuator from opening the wastegate too soon...

thanks c88... sometimes i manage to keep my train of thought long enough to... well... would you look at that...! .... sorry... was i saying something...?
Is it feasible to think that the wastegate MAY mechanically freeze up and not take a dump, causing an overboost? Is there a genuine downside to plugging the line?
I need to learn more about the wastegate and boost system, it appears that this is one of the keys to unlocking power.
i suppose that is possible... but unlikely... esspecially if you get on it every so often.. and who doesn't do that... the simply act of running it up in rpms as you get on a highway would bring your boost up to the point where it would start to overcome that spring pressure and open the wastegate... and if you do any towing... then you are probably running the boost up on a regulare basis.. as for unlocking power.. it does... as one wise person on this site told me... the power is already there...
i did it prior to putting in my boost gauge, (just got that in today), the hose is a red vaccum tube that hooks on to the gold colored round wastegate actuator at the back and a little to the drivers side of the engine... the rod coming out the back of it is hooked to the turbo... leave it hooked up..! all you have to do is unplug the red line... and you can plug it by mounting it on the end of the end of the clamp that holds the boot on to the intake manifold.. or just plug it with a bolt... either way you should notice your mule has a lot more kidyap out of the chute... and if you had a boost gauge, i think you would notice it would rise faster... one other thing... i do not think this is tied in with the map... i have not had any trouble codes before or since i did this free mod...!
i have a 1999 f250 psd engine build date is 6/19/98. the truck has 129k miles & is still stock as far as i know. i got it a few months ago from my brother & i drive it daily 50 miles round trip no towing would you guys recommend that i make the above changes ( wastegate) to my sweetie..
