I know this has been asked before.... but what is the best trailer brake controller out there. Where can I get it? I have a '04 PSD SC LB 4x4. Truck already has the trailer towing pkg.....12,500 receiver, flat and round connectors and the connector for a brake controller. Also any pictures of your mounting would be helpful also. Thanks in advance
If you want the best out there get a BrakeSmart, it uses hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder and it works in reverse and while standing still and it will also work with eclectic over hydraulic trailer brakes. http://www.brakesmart.net/I have used a lot of controls and this is by far the best but it did take about 4.5 weeks to get but it was worth the wait.
If you don't want to tie into your hydraulic system, I like the Tekoshna Prodigy http://www.campingworld.com/browse/s...=20535&src=TSC. It's very smooth and easy to setup. Once set, I haven't had to adjust unless I was pulling a different trailer.
If you're still under warranty, check with your dealer before you order/install the BrakeSmart; because it ties into the hydraulic system, you might run into a problem warranty-wise if you have a brake-related failure.
There have been many in this forum on the BrakeSmart and Prodigy.

Rvpuller is correct, for true proportional trailer braking you can't do better than the Brakesmart.
I've tried to order one this week but the best I could do was get my name on the list to order after calling them.
Frankly I no longer desire to use any controller that is activated by the brakelight switch...
Thanks for all the suggestions......I'm still under warranty....for another 70k miles. I'd hate to wait that long before installing the brake smart, but it looks like it seems to get more thumbs up over the progidy. Is hydraulic that much better than electric? How much trouble is it to install? I know the electric will be a breeze...just buy the controller, add the ford conector, and plug it in. Nice and simple. But the hydraulic? Has anyone run into warranty issues with Ford on it? I wish I could have bought an '05 with the tow command, but my dealer was willing to make a deal on my '04 XL PSD SC 4x4 LWB <torque shiFt tranny, and a few other options> (Thanksgiving weekend, late saturday afternoon, cold, rainy, windy)
The Brakesmart controller is easy to install and there will be no warranty problems installing it. It's just a matter of removing the front brake line form the master cylinder and installing a tee with a short hose with the sensor on the end, a easy brake bleed and that part is done. The rest is just plugging in their wiring harness and its done.
I have not had braking control like I have now sense I had the old hydraulic controller before rear anti locks were installed on trucks and we had to go to the all electric controllers, Prodigy are good but not like a true system that works off the brake pressure instead of brake lights and deceleration.
Here are some pictures of the install, you can see the tee on the master cylinder and I tie raped the sensor and hose to the hose for the brake booster at the right. When you bleed the air you just have to loosening and tightening the sensor.
