Progress Report

Well, it decided to rain today so I got in some wrenching time on my '67 2wd to 4x4 conversion.

I got the front hangers for my leaf springs completely finished, got my 2" hole cut in the frame for my rear shackles on front springs. Tomorrow I will make new shackles, and my front axle will be taken care of!

Also, installed my poly bushings in the front springs, pulled 2wd tranny, pulled out my seat, and some other misc crap.

I'll do what I can and get some pictures posted up on here ASAP.

My question of the night. I put axles from a '75 F250 underneath my truck. I need to hook up my brake lines, aka - need extended stainless lines. Will these lines hook up to my existing lines????

The lines you have will hook to the new axle. I recommend Skyjacker extended lines, they're a little pricey but quality is top notch and they have a plastic cover that keeps the braided line sealed so it can't get messed up. Another option is to remove the bolts and rivets that hold the brake line brackets. Then you can move the hard line down several inches.

If you need degree shims go to www.jkwoffroad.com. He builds steel shims so they won't have issues like aluminum does. For the Skyjacker lines use www.ntwonline.com. I had mine in less than a week.

Ivan,

How long did you make your rear shackles on your front springs? What is the center-to-center of the bolt holes? I've been doing some experimenting with mine today and was just wondering if there is any right or wrong way to do it....

I don't remember the measurement but I can tell you that I made them 3" longer than the stock shackles. You don't have to go this far of course, but it is one option. I'll eventually be replacing them with a shackle style like the rear springs use and it will be mounted under the frame at an angle that gives better flex.

Ivan,

I see that your spring sits behind the shackle hanger, while mine is in front - with no weight on them. Is this going to be a problem?

I guess I'm not really understanding what you're asking here. Are you referring to the position of the shackle? If so my shackle is pretty close to verticle with weight on it. Yours will be too, it only looks goofy because the spring is not under pressure. However I'd prefer to have the shackle at a 30* angle so my plan is to get rid of the 2 piece shackle setup that's built into the frame and use new shackles that will mount under the frame and I can move it forward about 1.5". We'll see how soon I get around to this though . . . I have a feeling it'll be a while.

Btw, looks like you're making progress. Nice job!

Well I just built my shackles. They are 2" longer than stock. Now I am waiting for my brother to get back from town, I needed to replace 2 of my leaf spring bolts, so he grabbed them for me.

I have a set of extended stainless lines from an '82 F150. Will the front lines worth with my '75 F250 axle? I can't seem to locate them right now to check, if anyone knows if they'll work I'll start looking harder for them....I got boxes of junk scattered in the 4 shops in my yard...

My plans for this evening are to put the crossmember in between the front hangers and weld it up solid, I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, its a great feeling! LOL

Anyone want any pictures of anything else on my truck?

Here is the shackle in place with no weight on the springs, yet....My brother should be home in an hour or so with the remaining bolts I need, so by the end of tonite I'll have pictures of my rig with an axle under the front

Next on the list is to finish yankin out the 2wd tranny, and then I'll start on my steering.....Its nice having the whole day to wrench on my junk!

BTW - the shackle is 2" longer than the stock one. Now I should have mucho flex out of my stock front springs
