Yeah, eventually it will be running dual flowmaster 40s....I have them, just need to get around to bending some pipe....Its more fun with the open headers anyway
Got the tranny pulled, gonna grab a quick bite to eat then I'll put the front axle on. Also got the front shock hoops sanded and painted, so they're ready to go on too.
Well guys I got it on 4 tires again this evening. I still have to tie in the front hangers with a crossmember and so some other stuff to the front yet, but its on the ground again!
I haven't had any time to make it to any races yet this summer. Hopefully we can get caught up on spraying now that we are finished planting. Had a good day spraying today, damn wind just picked up tho
Gives me a good reason to go mess around with the steering on my truck..
But yeah a job very well done. Loks like quite a few people on here got some progress made on their rigs this weekend. Alas i did not, but at least i got the starter rebuilt and an alternator put in the truck from my last episode of playing in the local mud hole, er, i mean my back yard .
Whats wrong with the steering again? (i'm tired and having a hard time concentrating on the screen ) You could always go and get some DOM tubing, some tie rod sleeves and tie rod ends, thread the pipe ends and presto, home made tie rods .
I was trying to use the push-pull type steering from a '75 F250 since I already had it. The box mounts too far forward on my F100 frame - as in - it hits the radiator - plus it is too big to fit the frame.....
And as of right now I have a crappy closed knuckle D44. Eventually I was gonna put a 60 up front, but I might hafta bite the bullet an do it now. I just wanted to get this thing driving ASAP and I thought this was going to work for the time being.
Well, I said the heck with the steering for the time being. Picked up a new throwout bearing so I can install my tranny an t-case this evening. I am kinda excited, I get to hack a hole in my floor for a t-case lever! hehe
I think I might just save my money for another month or so and go with a Dana 60 front. So, its time to start shopping. The guy I supposedly had a Dana 60 from turned out to be a Dana 44 today The sad thing is, its a junkyard and the guy is tryin to jew people, he knew damn well it wasn't a 60.
Ramboss...I had a line on a dana 60 not too far from your country but i bought it because it was just too good of a deal. Running 79 F-350 4X4 extended cab for cheap!!! Pretty rusty though.
Heya Ramboss,
First of all, Nice work on the truck! I like how you did the front towers, It looks pretty strong, however you should consider welding or bolting on a piece of flat steel between the two towers to give it some lateral support. I drew this up on ms paint so show you what i mean.
You can also look at Pro's truck to see the supports between the towers.
Second: I was wondering how thick those shackles are, and if you would be willing to make another set just like them for a couple of bucks? My shackles are too short and would probably hit the frame before i get full spring travel and the ones you made look like the perfect size.
Do you have any steering parts you'd be willing to part with? If so we could work out something. Heck I'd even get a good 44 front from ya with 4.10 gears if ya had one.... Send me a PM or drop me an email.
I got my tranny an t-case in this evening. The NP 208 didn't quite clear from frame rail on driver side so I had to notch a 1/2" square in my frame to clear it....The carnage is bout ready to begin!
Yeah I'd make those for ya if you wanted them. I used 1/2" by 1.5" flat steel to make them. I am running a lateral support in there, I just haven't gotten around to getting it in there yet. I got it cut this evening and its ready to be welded in. I'll probably get around to it tomorrow nite after work. Those shackles are 7" long (2" longer than the stock ones).
